[SOLVED] CPU Cooler for AMD Ryzen 5 5600x for VR

Hi,

Have been using my PC for about 9 months. 5 fans, 1 outake at the back, 1 outake on the top above CPU fan and then 3 on the front as intake. Temps at idle (Right now in a cold room 45C) however last night playing VR into the radius, they reached 95C quite quickly and the game stuttered tremendously as a result.

I did look at the FUMA 2 however it seems it didnt help people that drastically and as my room is usually hot and unfortunately the PC sits an an ever dusty area (I Dust & vacuum weekly but still dust buiildup is crazy, no alternative pc placement sadly) I really need a decent way to cool it, that is cheaper than water cooling and more reliable.

What thermal paste should I get?
What specific things should I research?
Is there a better alternative?

What cooler do you currently use? As for thermal paste it doesn't really matter, the variation between them is quite small. I'd recommend Noctua NT-H1/H2 or Artic MX-5.

The cooler you've suggested is a nice cooler, you can also get this at a reasonable price too if you wanted water, though they will probably perform similarly.

Oh ok, they do run hot with those. 95C still more than I would expect, though the Noctua cooler you suggested or a 240mm AIO should be a notable improvement. I'd also recommend manually setting a more aggressive fan curve in the bios.

Yes pulling the CPU out with the cooler, seen it too many times with AMD, my dad did it recently with a 2700X and bent the pins. My recommendation would be to power the computer on, maybe run something like Cinebench or a game or whatever for a bit just to soften the thermal paste. When your taking the current cooler off, I would gently twist it left and right to loosen it off the CPU rather than pull it straight out. A bit of IPA rubbing alcohol on a paper towel is best for cleaning the thermal paste off before you put your new cooler on, it comes off fairly easily then.

It's a personal choice of course, I'm sure some peeps would disagree but I would spare a thought for 240mm AIO's as an option for your new cooler. Nothing wrong with Noctua they would be my go to for air cooling. However as you have a tempered glass side panel, imo at least the AIO's look much prettier.

If you want air cooling though then I think the one you've chosen is fairly solid.
