I just got a ryzen 7 1800x and am still unsure about what cooler to get. Does anyone have any recommendations for a cooler for the CPU with a bit of OC legroom in temps?

Solution
Ryzen CPUs are usually not limited by thermal output in sheer wattage, but rather die temperatures. They scale well with cold at roughly 5 MHz/C at above ambient temperatures. For typical 70 degrees Celcius, this is roughly 3.8-4.0 GHz maximum at load. For 50 however, this reaches 3.9-4.1 GHz.

You might want to go for a CLC liquid cooler for water has a high heat capacity so that temperatures do not rise as much during workload spikes, which is easier to stabilise. An air cooler may also work if the heatsink is large enough to absorb spikes in temperatures and dissipate heat.

I would personally recommend a decent aftermarket tower cooler or a 240mm or larger AIO liquid cooler.

My budget is around $50 or so and I haven't decided on a case yet so clearance shouldn't be an issue as of yet
