CPU Cooler Modification

So recently I got a new CPU and it came with the stock cooler, a friend of mine said I should get the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo because its good and quiet. However after some research i found out that the 212 Evo is 159mm tall (http://www.coolermaster.com/cooling/cpu-air-cooler/hyper-212-evo/) and my case (http://www.corsair.com/en-gb/carbide-series-spec-01-red-led-mid-tower-gaming-case) says it only supports 150mm CPU coolers (I got the info from the box it came in).
I then wondered wether it would be possible to make shorter in any way e.g. taking some heat sink fins off and getting a smaller fan.

It's shorter and performs just as well as the 212 EVO.

I live in the UK and can only find it on Ebay where its £40 -£50 (pounds not dollars)

One guy on this forum cut the tops off his heatpipes!

I thought about that but it would only be a couple of mm smaller and i need 7mm off of the 212 Evo height

Which will ruin the cooler - so, no, don't do that.

The copper heat pipes are vacuum sealed - cut the pipe, release the vacuum, ruin the cooler.

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT TAMPERING WITH HEATPIPES!!!!

Heatpipes are vacuum inside, and any openings basically make them useless. So by modifying it, you're basically destroying part of your heatsink.
