Hi,

I just built a new gaming rig last week and was wondering if anyone can suggest a decent cpu cooler which I could purchase and install in the new year (bit broke at the moment) and anything else I would require along with that. Also which would be better (new to PC gaming/overclocking), the big air coolers or water coolers (price/performance/replacement issues).

The system is:

CPU: intel i5 4670K (3.4 Ghz)
CPU Cooler: stock
MOBO: msi Z87-GD65 Gaming
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LP red 8GB (2x4GB) (1866 Mhz) - [CML8GX3M2A1866C9R]
GPU: msi Geforce GTX 760 TF OC 4GB
PSU: Antec HCG-850M
HDD1 (OS): Samsung 840 evo 120GB SSD
HDD2: WD 1TB caviar black 7200rpm (64mb)
OS: Win 7 Professional (64 bit)
CHASSIS: Zalman Z11 plus

Regards,

Well, Phanteks ph tc14pe is best air based cooler in the market..it's better than noctua NH-D14
and performance delta between Phanteks and Coolermaster 212+ evo is noticeable, around 11'c..

between phanteks and corsair h100i maximum profile, you can see exact same result between this cooling system..

both of benchmark is measured in mild overclocking.

Well, liquid cooling useful when your processor in a high overclocking condition, in other word, you run it near the limit of each processor architecture..
for exp, fx class for 5+ GHz, haswell for 4.7Ghz...
a air cooler will never give as much cooling performance as water cooling.however, they are usually cheaper. as a budget option, a hyper 212 evo will be excellent. for a more high end solution, go for an h100i or a noctua heatsink that fits in your case.

Yes I've heard that the Hyper 212 evo is an excellent "budget" cooler and have been considering that, but if it would be more beneficial to go for a Noctua (more expensive I presume) or similar I'd also look into that. For the air coolers you just need to make sure you have enough space in your case right, and that it won't be to heavy? No extra stuff needed as with other cooler types?

Sorry, not as clued up on this as I should perhaps be haha...

Thanks for the replies though

yeah but then you would have to live with the jet in your case, anyway tbo im planning on going nzxt kraken x60 myself its better than anythng out there at this point including h100i and nhd14 but its more expensive

but if you're just want to moderate overclocking, then go with air cooling..
