CPU Core is 10c hotter than others.

Alright so I have a i7-4790k and since switching to intel was probably the most money I have ever spent on my PC in one purchase, I am really paranoid about my CPU temps. Here's a link of what I'm looking at. http://imgur.com/a/jAtY3

Is it normal for one core to be around 10c hotter than the other three? Are any of those temps pretty normal for a game like battlefield? I also have a 4gb 770 windforce, 16gb ddr3 if that info also helps. My GPU runs at around 60-67c so I'm not worried about that.

I also have a 2-3 year old evo heatsink if that has anything to do with it and I just applied some new thermal paste last night.

Solution

First thing to do is to change the thermal paste.
If you have this heatsink https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-212-RR-212E-20PK-R2/dp/B005O65JXI with PWM fan, there should be an option in BIOS to setup the fan speed.

That picture was taken while I was playing Battlefield 1 so it gets up to 78-80c sometimes. Ever since I applied new paste it doesn't hit 80c too often anymore but I would say that's as hot as that 1 core gets. All of the other cores stay around 70 or under. Also, playing BF1 is probably the most intensive thing I do on my comp atm. I ran a prime 95 test but I think I chose the wrong option and it pushed that core up to 100c but I have never seen my cpu get that hot doing anything else. That stress test was the first time I've seen that which is why real temp says" LOG" on one of the cores in that pic.

Wow, that pretty high with prime95 test.
Run prime, go into option, choose torture test, run In-place large FFT s, and see how far it goes. You can give a try to HWMonitor for all your temps.

Okay so this is what it looked like during that test

Core #0 100c max temp
Core #1 93c max temp
Core #2 81c max temp
Core #3 74c max temp

So what is the issue? My temps never get nearly that high unless I do a stress test. Core#0 is always getting 10c hotter than the other cores though. I am not too sure if it's my heatsink or what? I'm guessing it isn't normal for temps to be that high during that test.

It idles at 25-33c and get to 65-78c during really heavy gaming.

Well there is no issue itself, just the temps are pretty high IMO, try to change your thermal paste (I'm using Noctua NT-H1) and maybe try to set up higher speed on your fan.
For me it should sit at 85c max, 93-100 is too high.
Cheers.

How do I increase my heatsink fan speed? I've never been able to figure that out.

Okay I'll definitely change the thermal paste from the arctic silver I have. I also found the bios setting for fan control and I increased them. Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to post back on here when ever I apply new paste sometime soon. Whats the best thing to use to wipe it off of a cpu?

Clean it with some tissue or paper then use ethanol, isopropyl alcohol or simply with nail polish remover to remove grease. At the end apply the thermal paste with cross method.
