Im trying to find max stable overclock for my daughter's pc. I posed another question about quirky readings in the monitoring software that were never an issue on my amd chips but i digress. .

G3258 in msi h81 p33 mobo.
anything past 4.2 crashes upon prime95 28.5 startup. Highest voltage ive gone is 1.35v whichs gets me to this state. I dont really like that voltage but lets back up for a moment. 4.2 used to be stable at 1.325 but im currently stressing it at 1.3 which it used to fail there. The difference is in the cpu config i changed the cpu power current limit from auto to 100a. It looks like auto was setting it to 75. Im not really sure what this does so a) is 100 safe can i go higher and b) what effect does it have.

I dont see any vdroop in any monitoring software as cpuz is not showing vcore it looks like it is showing vin1 which is constant 0.144v. The only semblance of vcore i see is in hwin64 and it is always rock solid +- .001 from what i set vcore in bios so ive been going off that.

I would suggest to set the cpu current to auto. CPU current doesnt have a great part in overclocking. By setting it to a particular point, gives a limit to the CPU. If you set it on auto, the CPU will take depend on its requirement at the particular time. Your motherboard has 4+2 power phase design and it is preety good for overclocking. If it fails at 1.3 then increase it to 1.32 or 1.325. You got a stable oc at this voltages. It seems to be more bu some CPUs need more voltages and some less. My CPU needs less voltage, cauze I overclocked it to 5.4 GHz with just 1.365 volts. Your CPU may need more voltage. try with 1.32 or 1.325 and check. If it is stable then go further.
