i have a toshiba laptop l655. It overheats, shutsdown, reaches a temp of 80 c, then shutsdown. Can't really function.
Ran Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool 64 bit. It failed twice, at prime number test, and aborted. Then ran the tool on another toshiba laptop, and it passed.
So my question is, would replacing the cpu be the solution to my problem?

Thanks

replacing the thermal paste on both the chip/die with a good paste like arctic mx4, cleaning the exhaust (dust could be stuck on the blower exhaust), and cleaning the intake hole on your laptop could help dissipate heat. it could be that when it reaches the temp limit it would auto shutdown.

done all that, still reaches 80 c shutsdown when running firefox for a while, and shutsdown quickly when running memory test, mdsched.exe, can not get to phase 2, shutsdown, temp reads 86 c. Ran intel processor diagnostics, and processor failed test. Ran diagnostics on another laptop, and it passed. Could it be processor then failing? Or even motherboard and processor?
