CPU Fan Control While Overclocking

Hey,

Just wondering if I should use my ZALMAN quiet CPU Cooler controlled by Qfan on my ASUS board or the PWM wheel controller for manual control while starting my OC.

If I use the manual speed control should I be running it at max while finding my OC or just try my best at using the temps to guide me? Im partially deaf and use headphones to boot while using my comp so sound isnt too much of an issue lol

If sound is not an issue, full fan speed it is. Runs cooler, lasts longer.

I use the quiet fan profile my self, but am not pushing any insane clocks(2600k @ 4.4 and 920 @ 3.5)

I'm not looking for insane clocks at all. So Q Fan is working well tho otherwise? Is there any way to actually adjust the setpoints for Q FAN if I wanted to go that route? I'll admit this just popped into my head so I havent used the search yet on this one 😛

On my Asus boards, I have been using standard since on my older asus board, silent would stall the fan.

On my Maximus Gene-Z, I use standard since silent will not drop the fan below 60% anyway.

On my gigabyte boards, the default setting is very quiet with the right fans. The cpu fan idles about 600 or lower and the case fans get as low as 300.

Overall, Asus boards tend to control more fans(but this Maximus Gene-Z has no speed setting under 60 in the bios 🙁 ), my older gigabyte boards would only control 2 fans, the others are all full speed.
