I got a new Cooler Master Hyper 212X and want to use the push/pull config. Can I stick a fan splitter on the CPU fan header and power both fans?

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P.

Solution

Shouldn't be a problem as long as its just 2 fans. if they are four pin fans you should get a pwm splitter like...

It will allow for pwm control on both fans, just make sure you get the same exact fans because the cpu header will only read one fan to control both of...

It will allow for pwm control on both fans, just make sure you get the same exact fans because the cpu header will only read one fan to control both of their speeds. Also make sure your fans don't use more than 1 amp total, which shouldn't be much of a problem

Ok, I have 2 different fans.
One is the stock fan that comes with the cooler - not installed yet (pull):
Fan Speed 600 - 2,000 RPM (PWM) ± 10%
Connector 4-Pin
Fan Rated Voltage 12 VDC
Fan Rated Current 0.37A
Power Consumption 4.44W (max)

The other is a Cooler Master Casing Fan 12cm XtraFlo Slim - installed (push):
Speed (R.P.M.) 500 - 1,600 RPM (PWM) ± 10%
Connector 4-Pin
Voltage 12 VDC
Current (Ampere) 0.16A
Power Consumption 1.92W

I swapped the stock fan for the XtraFlo one when I first installed the cooler. I was hoping to use the stock fan as well. Is this possible or it's best to just get the same fan for the pull config?

If you are using the PWM splitter it only reads the RPM of one fan, and uses it to control both. Its best to use both of the same but if you use an rpm range that fits within both fans it should control them fine for the most part, just wouldn't have the full range of RPMs of the fans. Might have to play with it a bit to find a range that works for the two different fans
