CPU Fan header override on Motherboard

Hey guys, Ive just bought a 3 dial fan controller, and was dissapointed to find that if I connect my CPU fan directly to the controller the Motherboard alarms and shuts down the computer, gives a message about overheating before it shuts the machine down as it thinks the CPU fan is not connected(technically true!).

I have a solution, and was wondering if I connected an empty 3 pin fan connector (without a fan, cables or anything on the end of it) to the fan header on the Motherboard (A bit like a jumper) Will this fry the motherboard or damage the header? will this work or does the 3 pin connector have to make a circuit? I want to do this so i can control my CPU fan from the fan controller itself and trick the Motherboard into thinking its still got a fan attatched. I cant override the sensor in BIOS and the there is no onboard jumper config to let me do this!

Chuggot 9218 & JackNaylorPE thanks for your response, I agree that toying around with the fan speed of a CPU could damage the motherboard. And I should let the Mobo let it do the job its supposed to, the problem is, I have installed Windows 7 & 8 and they cause the fans to go beserk! I'm happy with W8 except for this one little problem. I could connect a Chassis fan to the header, I don't have much room though, however I could connect a hard drive fan, that would work too :) Many thanks!
