I have a i7 980 from 2011 and am hearing really annoying scratching sounds i think are from the cpu cooler, i tried all the other fans and the hdd's and still got the same. When my cpu tems goes up and the fan spins faster it goed away.
Any tips?

Is this the cooler that you have? http://techreport.com/review/18581/intel-core-i7-980x-extreme-processor/2 which seems to be an Intel DBX-B Thermal Solution (E75476-00X or E97381-00X): https://www.amazon.com/Intel-DBX-B-Thermal-Solution-E75476/dp/B00GZHFQ24 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Extreme-Desktop-Heatsink-Fan-for-Core-I7-980X-3-33-GHZ-Socket-LGA1366-New-/401135240047?hash=item5d6586036f:m:mzz7FwZ6imsp7qNmmOJed8Q

You can buy a complete cooler and only replace the fan; that way you won't have to reinstall the cooler.
It's easy to determine if it's the CPU cooler fan; stop it when the noise occurs and if it goes away, then you know where the noise comes from. Replacing it will revolve the issue, but you could use a more aggressive fan profile to prevent it from spinning at low speed; eventually it will be noisy at up to medium RPM.

I already have it from 40 to 100% so its pretty agressive

As said i have an i7 980, it isnt the regular cooler at all and its a massive tower, no tutorials on the replacong or anything
