Cpu fan not spinning fast enough

My cpu fan is only spinning at 1070 rpm and will not increase with heat. Cant change cpu fan speed in bios and i dont know of any apps to increase fan speed manually. Currently for a quick fix the cpu fan is plugged into the system fan 1 header so the fan runs at 3480 rpm. The fan works because its running that fast but i need another permanent fix. If there is any apps that i can run that allow me to resume direct control of the fan speed please let me know. Or if the current configuration is fine let me know.

There should be an auto setting in BIOS to change the CPU fan speed once your temperatures go up. It should be automatic in the first place... Is the RPM not changing once your CPU raises in temperature?

No its not. Also should have been more specific its an amd chip and a msi board.

In hopes that you have a more recent MSI motherboard- open up BIOS and go to settings. Go to advanced then hardware monitor. Enable CPU smart fan target. That should fix it. That is what I found online atleast.

In hopes that you have a more recent MSI motherboard- open up BIOS and go to settings. Go to advanced then hardware monitor. Enable CPU smart fan target. That should fix it. That is what I found online atleast.

Went to the h/m settings (have been there many times before) I have disabled amd cool and quiet tech after it was the failure of the cpu fan before and the thing still overheats.

It should work on Windows 8. Says so on the website. (I have Windows 7. Sorry can't test it) The only harm that can be done by putting the CPU fan into a Sysfan slot would be that it might not be getting enough cooling. Though in this case it is fine.
