CPU fan not spinning

My CPU fan sometimes doesn't start spinning when I turn my computer on. I try and start it because maybe it's stuck. So I give it a small push, nothing. If I hold the power button to turn it on or off it will give a little spin. If I restart the computer once or twice itl turn on, is this a motherboard problem or do I just need a new fan for the CPU

Solution
Try plugging any other system fan into where the CPU fan is plugged in and see if it behaves normally, if it does then you need a new CPU cooler. This is very likely the issue, the chance of a fan header on a motherboard failing is EXTREMELY slim.
Hi

It may depend on motherboard and BIOS (UEFI) settings

many motherboards wont start up if the fan is not detected

some only start when the cpu warms up

If the fan is not running the CPU will usually slow down and then switch off to prevent over heating.

How old is the CPU Heatsink & Fan? (is it a INTEL or AMD one from a retail CPU?)

If the system is shutting down or bleeping or throttling due to over heating then you need a new fan

There are NO motherboards that do not start and run the fan upon power on. They run it at a slower speed until the temp gets to where it needs to spin faster, but one that does not spin the fan does not exist.

It's a few years old, the PC starts up and everything runs fine. I just noticed this happening recently. I'm going out to buy a new fan for it.

It's an AMD fx8350 with a cool master hyper 212 evo heatsink fan combo

Probably your best bet, its highly unlikely anything else is causing the problem. The fan is easily removable from the 212 evo to be replaced.
