Hello. I my cpu heatsink has a replaceable 80mm fan. Question: do I point the fan blowing air towards, or away, from the cpu its self? Thanks!

If it's a stock AMD CPU cooler with the 80mm fan, it blows down through the heatsink towards the CPU. The air exists out the sides of the heatsink.

If it's not a stock AMD cooler, then find out what the manufacturer recommends and do that or tell us what it is and somebody probably knows!

Down towards the cpu.
That is the direction the stock intel cooler blows.
But... any 80mm fan is terrible as a cooler, particularly for a older, hotter, chip such as a Q6600.
If the fan needs replacing, consider replacing the cooler.
$30 should buy you something decent with a 120 mm fan.

I don't know about Intel coolers but an HP desktop probably has a "stock Intel cooler". Both Intel and AMD provide very specific specifications for the coolers manufacturers use with their CPUs. For retail CPUs, the coolers are included with the CPU. They aren't the best, but Intel and AMD know the basic designs will work safely.

I'm pretty sure this is the cooler, although it may have an HP label and part number:

Pretty sure these all blow down.

With the price of replacement coolers, I'd probably just replace the whole thing rather than trying to find a fan to fit. Most of them ship with pre applied heat sink compound. Just clean off the CPU with 90% isopropyl and install the new cooler.
