CPU fan questions

Hello everyone,

I just bought an Asus A7V333 motherboard with an Athlon XP2100+ with the stock AMD CPU fan. The CPU temperature is 63C - 72C on a cool day. I live in a very hot climate, so I guess in hotter days the temperature will surely rise. I'm also planning to do some mild overclocking, so I guess this should also cause the temperature to rise. The motherboard temperature is 35C.

My questions are:
1) Is my CPU running too hot?
2) Do I need a better fan, like the Volcano 7+?
3) I'm trusting that my CPU can't be damaged because the A7V333 will shut down if the CPU gets too hot. Is this true or am I mistaken?

Yes

Yes...Your Volcano 7+ is okay but in your ambient heat enviroment you need better heat disipation. The Thermaltake Volcano 7+ can achieve a <A HREF="http://www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v7plus.htm" target="_new">cooling ratio of 0.32C/W</A>. The <A HREF="http://www.micforg.co.jp/c_pal8045e.html" target="_new">Alpha PAL8045</A> can achieve 0.28C/W with a <A HREF="http://www.deltaww.com/products/dcfans/pdf/AFB8080254.pdf" target="_new">quieter (7 dBA) and slightly less airflow (2.38CFM less) fan</A>. The Alpha is just a better cooling design. So the lower the C/W the better the disipation of tht heat.

Mistaken...The motherboard most likely will shut the voltage down but not necessarily. The commands are given from the chipset and not from the CPU. The MB can check the temp but that has been the problem from the beginning. The Die needs be able to act, not wait for a signal from the MB. That is why the P4 has a better thermal design tan the T-Bird, XP, and T-Bred. I can and most likely will work but it still does not guarantee that it will work. You need a better cooler period. You want to OC in a warn enviroment.
