My CPU is an i5-4690k with the default heatsink and fan.
Hello all, my CPU fan is doing diddly squat. According to RealTemp, I reach 208 degrees F, or 98 degrees C, AT IDLE. I can look in my case through some fan holes and see that it is indeed running. When I ran a 3DMark Skydiver test, I think I maxed RealTemp out at 212 degrees F, or 100 degrees C.
Is my fan a lost cause? Do I need an aftermarket cooler? My 3DMark physics score never reaches 2500 because of this, and I can't even play Skyrim, my favorite game, without constant fps drops.
EDIT: It's now, when at 0.5% load, getting to about 70 C. I had to turn the fan speed to max in the BIOS settings and take off a side of the case.
I can feel the airflow around my CPU, and it isn't hot coming out of the heatsink. I lick my finger and put it next to it, and it's not 70 C air, it actually feels rather cool. My room temperature is around 72 F.
Edit2: I ordered a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO, it fit in my Corsair 200r case, and I have no problems. My physics score in 3DMark over tripled, so my stock cooler was just bad. The clips all malfunctioned, so I got no contact with the CPU, explaining all the phenomena I experienced.
TL;DR: High temps, low physics score, DOA heatsink, Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO saved the day.
