Recently bought an AMD FX-8350 an holy shit is the stock fan it comes with loud. When idle it's fine but during gaming it gets louder and louder over time until it's unbearable. When exiting the game it takes ages to recover (noise-wise) and sometimes doesn't recover fully at all. I have no overclocked hardware.

Why?

That is one of the major complaints about the stock AMD cooler. Noise. It has a tiny fan that has to spin super fast to cool the 125W CPU when it is under load. Best solution, buy an aftermarket cooler. One with a large fan. Large fans move the same amount of air as a small fan, but at much lower RPM (and noise).

This one snaps right on in place of the stock cooler and is even fine for light OC'ing. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064
Unless you have a very narrow case, it should not be too tall.
