[SOLVED] CPU for 3D MAX work, rendering i7 "K" or "X" ? Build 2018. 2000 euros

Hi guys!

I am trying to build a PC for 3d max rendering and gaming. 2018.
I wanted to go for i7-8700K, but almost in the end of buying parts, I thought about changing CPU...More cores/threads- better.

Intel is my only option, but I am not sure about "K" or "X" product line. How about i7-7820X?

The whole budget is about 2000 euro.

My CPU in laptop I use now - i7-4700HQ

3DSMax would benefit from the i7 7820X with the extra cores and threads and memory channels.

If you decide to go to the i7 7820X you would change the board but also would want a quad channel memory kit (4 x 8GB for 32GB) to take advantage of the memory.

You could drop the PSU to a 600W easily with that CPU and GPU to allocate more money to the CPU and board.

It already goes higher than 2000 with 7820x, so I am ready to pay some extra for Motherboard if that helps viability of system and stable work.
I will also have to go with WiFi adapter.

What do you think about that models...?

The NH- D15 will do a great job. Toogh choice on the motherboard but the ASRock tends to have better and more VRM phases..

Changed to i7-7820x - cause 8 cores, better for render in 3d max

Hi guys!
I want to thank you all for your help!

the PC runs great! it is the first time I have Windows on SSD, so I am very surprise with speed.
CPU temperarute+Noctua nh-d15s - 35-40C *idle, and 75C when rendering with Vray+3d Max. (I will update info about that soon) abd 60C - when gaming (*890 RPM fan speed)
I am realy glad that I took Noctua Fan rather than some Water cooling, Fan looks awesome!

GPU temperature - 36-40C idle with 39% fan speed(i wouldn't say it is hearable) and 56C with 40% fan speed.

Motherboard temperature - 37C allways Ihave x2 140mm fans in front, x1 140mm case included cooler master fan and x1 top 120mm. It is hearable but not that much.

Motherboard has a realy ice software "F-Stream Tunning" for monitoring and managing Fan speed and temperatures of CPU and MB.

All of these I see only if my new PC is in a good mood, but recently I faced some problems...

1) Start...
when I press Power button, I see that PC turns on, fans are running about 3-4 sec. and then all off, after 1-2 sec it starts and system runs as usual.
2) Graphic card...perfomance...FPS
usualy it is about 120-140 FPS in Rainbow Six Siedge with Ultra and 2K resolution, BUT ! now it happens pretty often that I have only arround 50-65 FPS ( i check it with ingame interface overlay benchmark and MSI RivaTuner)
swithing to Low and FullHD - 100 FPS.

Same stuff in Assassin's Creed Origins - 30-50 FPS with Ultra and FullHD (should be arround 80FPS)

Graphic card temperature at this time 56C...whenever idle or gaming. +it is not getting lower when game is in tray.

Only one thing helps - Restart PC.
I realy have no idea what is happening.....
Any suggestions?

Hi Ars, Happy you have a great system....A little bit confused on the problems you are facing. It looks like a software issue, probably drivers or something like that. I would start by going into bios and setting optimised defaults. Then reinstalling your Nvidia drivers and check to see if anything in your device manager has a yellow warning mark which usually means something needs a driver. Also in Power Management, check to see of you are on balanced mode and try performance mode.

Please forgive me for asking this but you never know, did you connect the additional power 8 pin connector to the top left of the motherboard....I know you probably did but..

It would also be great if you could do a Prime95 version 26.6 run and tell me what your temps are at load.

Hopefully others will jump in on this thread and help too...Meanwhile I will do some more checking and get back to you.

Actually I already solved the problem with FPS drops and high temperatures.
I checked Task Manager, and saw that there was a RealtekHD audio driver that used my GPU permanently up to 100%
Yes GPU...and a bit of CPU :/
Then I found a forum thread on 3ddd. where it came up to be a Mining software that was pretending a RealtekHD audio driver that loaded my GPU and CPU. So I just deleted that stuff.
I hope that info could help somebody.

But the issue with start is still actual...so PC starts after a second pause during the start.
Is it save for the system to make these stress tests ?)

Great to hear as there is nothing worse than haveing a performance problem that you connot figure out...it drives me crazy!!!! On the boot issue, I do not think it is a problem as it could be something to do with a soft or hard shut down...and then how it restarts.

I've built two systems with Asrock motherboards, the second one in my signture below, and both exhibit this

as to GPU, take a look at this thread over in the Nvidia GeForce forums - the latest drivers have been buggy, and the moderator identifies the last known stable driver - read down to the 3rd post in the thread

With my Gigabyte Z370 Gaming 7, the memory did not like the first and third slot so I used 3nd and 4th and never had a problem after that.

I just did that. It turns on fine, no pause, but....nothing on the screen and code on motherboard 53, meaning ram issue.

I just love when pc behaves as a living creature.

Ha ha..yes they are alive and can act act up for attention... On the memory front. Yes code 53 is memory related and it seems to be either the memory is not seated properly or some qualification issue....Right now it is not recognising the memory...

Go back to your initial setup for the moment and run some memory tests as I think the memory is absolutly fine.

Problem has been solved. I loaded default bios settings, it loaded fine, from first time. But memory speed was lower - 2133mhz (should be 3200).
Then I entered bios on second start and changed it to profile xmp 1 - 3200mhz. PC launched fine, and now runs perfectly. No pause on load now.
