CPU for Asus m5a97 r2.0

I currently have an Asus m5a97 r2.0 and I was thinking about upgrading near Black Friday. I was wondering what is the best CPU I can upgrade to with my current mother board.

I have a GTX 970 and 16 gbs of DDR3 just in case it may affect the CPU I could upgrade to.

Don't upgrade the CPU on that motherboard. Your board has no cooler on the MOSFETs. And even if it did, it only has a four phase power delivery system. It's not capable of properly running anything above 95W. No, the six and eight core energy efficient FX CPUs don't count because they reach 125W when they boost up to their turbo frequency.

I'd suggest making the switch to Intel.
