What CPU should I get for CS:GO?
Should I go with the i7 8700k or get the i5 8600k? Which is better for CS? I'm playing 1024x768@144Hz

Neither? I'm pretty sure my $50 G5400 could get 144hz on CSGO with my RX 580. I know before I was getting 120-150 on 900P paired with a GTX 750 ti.

At 768p any pentium on LGA1151 will give you that FPS on a 6 year old game. Spend what you can afford either of those CPU's are a massive overkill for that title even at 1080P.

Check your CPU & GPU temps, that 6500 should have no issues running CSGO.

Im getting around 220 fps on maps, but sometimes drops to 110-100 and it's annoying at 144Hz,

I ran a benchmark, 1920x1080 all low.
I also ran on 1280x920 and average was 153.

I would just adjust settings to limit those dips as not only would you need to buy a new CPU but also a new motherboard as your current board doesn't support them.

As mentioned to move to a 8th Gen Intel CPU you would need a new motherboard and either a 8600K or 8700K would also require a CPU cooler. Cost range is going to be $330+ for that update. What is your GPU and why would you run in DX9 mode when 11 is available? Do you have DX11 installed? The game should default to it if you do.
