Hi all I currently have the GA 78LMT USB3 R2 motherboard and looking to upgrade from my ancient Phenom II x4 965. So I was thinking an FX 8350 but I’ve read there can be some issues with this combination? Is this true? I also have a Corsair H45 liquid cooler if that helps. If the 8350 isn’t a good option, what do people recommend for the best results? Also, is it possible to overclock with my motherboard?

Thanks everyone.

Your motherboard is known to have issues with 125w CPU’s, you want to keep to 95w maximum. It’s the motherboard VRM’s, they are just too weak and overheat.

Using an AIO cooler actually makes this worse as it reduces airflow over motherboard components when compared to air coolers.

About the best cpu choice is the 6300.

Hi, the only thing is the CPU I currently have is the 125 W black edition, so even if I didn't upgrade then I'd have the same issue. How unreliable is my motherboard when using a 125W CPU? Because if it was to last a year or two then I'd be happy. And for the 6300, would this be a worthwhile upgrade from my current CPU as there isn't a massive difference.
