Hi Guys,
I'm planning out my PC build that will primarily be used for Gaming, Streaming and Editing. The editing won't be intensive but I do it frequently. Currently I'm looking at the i5 4670k and the FX 8350.

Any advice on which to get will be much appreciated.

Thanks, Chris

I've been scared off overclocking (at least initially) by horror stories, and I've heard that the 8320 is effectively an under clocked 8350, so without over clocking what is the difference between the two?

around 500MHz (which is more or less nothing) 8350 is a higher clocked version of 8320.

How good is the Xeon for gaming, as well as multitasking (e.g. Streaming and Gaming at the same time)

:) Let's make it clear mate
It's an core i7 CPU with 8 threads, streaming will uses cpu a lot and uses threads a lot, and xeon has it
Gaming, it will work as an i5 4670, but! In the next years games will be using more cores and then xeon will shine then! Even now battlefield 4 or crysis 3 use more cores to get better performance :)

+no integrated graphics
- you can't overclock

*update : was meant for my mate above you

I'm sorry to keep questioning you on this but I'm new to all this, and I want to make sure I understand before I place the money down. My only problem with the xeon (sounds odd but) is that I have bearly seen anyone using this in their builds and I would imagine that if it was such an amazing chip then everyone would be using it, kinda comes down to, is it too good to be true?

That's the question many people ask and that's why they dont get it. Also in older days, xeon was used for Servers, but it has changed a bit. People think it's for servers that's their reason why they get i7 instead. I was deciding between an i7 4770/k and then i found about xeon, i searched some stuff and saw people getting it in their gaming builds.

There servers options stayed a bit and that's = you can run your pc 24/7 with a xeon

But if you look, its a 1150 socket just like i7 4770, same L3 cache, same performance and same hyperthreading.
It will work on the same motherboard and it will work the same as a core i7

But it has no graphics card integrated, and that's a +

Getting it would not be a bad choise, that one would be the best for your needs

Honestly it sounds great, do you use it in your build? Also I heard that the Xeon was an old chipset and the user claimed that this made it obsolete which worried me, could at some point in the future I find that my options start becoming limited due to this chipset or did the guy just have no idea what he was on about?

The Xeon 1230 V3 is a great chip I'd like to be seen used more often on these forums if I'm honest. It comes in at a great price point between the i7 4770 and i5 4670K where it can outperform the i5 without too much of a premium price.

I feel the 4670K is recommended for users on these forums often just because it's the standard, The Xeon can't overclock? So what you don't want to OC and the fact of the matter is that the Xeon is the faster CPU

The Xeon 1230 as posted above would be my recommended chip, You will notice the performance over the i5 4670K in streaming and editing due to the hyperthreading capabilities in the Xeon which the i5 lacks.

Only issue is that if your GPU breaks you have no integrated to fall back on, worst comes to worst you have to wait 2weeks whilst you get a replacement from manufacturer if it's under warranty or you order a new cheaper GPU for $30 as a temp. Never had a GPU die on me yet though.

That guy was clueless talking about the chipset.

The Xeon 1230 V3 is of socket 1150(haswell) which is the same as the i5 4670k meaning both CPU's are useable in the SAME Motherboards. They are of the same generation both the latest intel offerings.

Hah, v3 is haswell based CPU, that is really not old, but there are older xeons and you might hear of them.
Yes I got it and I could afford a GTX 780 instead of 770 :).

Every year comes something new, once it will be old, but I don't think an core i7 cpu will be old in the future 5 years

Be aware though :)
You can't overclock xeon
You need a H87 motherboard because that one doesn't support overclocking = money save ( z87 cost a lot )

That guy was clueless talking about the chipset.
You mean me by that?

Thanks heaps! I can't really pick a "Best Solution" because everyone has been so helpful. Just one final thing, could you maybe recommend a good cost effective case with a good amount of room for multiple cards/hard drives and good cooling. I've asked this before and everyone basically said that I need to decide for myself because it's all about taste, but I'm not to worried about the look (however a cool looking one wouldn't be a problem!). Thanks again!

hmmm yeah that makes sense now that I think about it, if you don't mind do you have any suggestions?
