Hello i have a Hp envy 700-406 and it came with an A-10 7700k 3.40 ghz APU and right now i got it matched with a Nvidia GTX 960, i was wondering what would be a better cpu and gpu combo, an A-10 7850k or an A-10 7870k i can buy either of these cpu's im just wondering what one would be best with my GTX 960, buying a new motherboard for a new socket type is not a option, so please dont bring it up.

Judging by your motherboard, it should be, but DONT BUY IT. You will see absolutely no increase in performance with any FM2 CPU. The only circumstance in which you should by the Athlon is in which the old CPU is burnt out or something. It is a complete waste of money to buy a new CPU. If you must keep your motherboard, just leave the 7700K alone. It is just a 7850K at a lower clock rate. All 4 CPUs are the same, just different clock rates (and a missing GPU in the Athlon's case)
Honestly, the Athlon 860K is your best bet. Its a 7850k without the integrated GPU (I.e., its just the processor). Cheaper for the same performance, since you already have a 960.

None of those will see a huge increase though. To get a real boost you need to either OC or swap to Intel (IK you said not to bring it up). Id just keep the 7700K until youve got enough for an i5 and H97/H170 set.

The 7850K/7870K/860K will have no noticable performance increase, maybe a frame or two. Just save for an Intel...

I was actually looking at the Athlon x4 860k but when i look on the HP support, the Cpu compatibility list does not show the Athlon x4 860k as a compatible cpu with my motherboard. do any of you know if that Athlon x4 860k is compatible with my HP ENVY 700-406.
