hey guys i just built this computer using the fx 8320 and asrock 980de3/u3s3 and hyper 212 evo. i have downloaded cpu z and it showing 1.40v to maintain 3.5 ghz. isn't that a bit too much?

Solution
44 is quite normal. As long as your processor remains under 62-65 degrees it's fine.

Which motherboard do you have? You'll have to change the voltage in BIOS, and then test to see if it's stable. Don't set it immediately to 1.18v because maybe your CPU will only reach 1.25 or something. There's no way to know in advance but to test it. I think you can easily lower it to 1.3v, so try that first, and then try lowering with increments of 0.02v if possible.
Mine was 1.38v on stock. I undervolted it to... I think it was 1.18 or something. I managed to reach 4.5 GHz with 1.4v. Your voltage is probably is higher than needed, but the CPU can handle 1.55v without any problems, as long as the temperature is kept low enough.

can you please tell me how i can under volt it i don't have an option for 1.18 and also there are many other voltages. can you tell me what i have to change? my cpu is running hot so i want to keep it cooler. my temps are like 44 when browsing web.

i am using asrock 980de3/u3s3 do you think i can use amd overdrive to change voltage. and also i don't like how my cpu keeps going to 1.3 ghz randomly than back to 3.5 i want to keep it at 3.5 all the time.

It's the cool n quiet feature. It goes to 1.3 GHz when there's not much for it to calculate. It saves energy. When more power from the CPU is needed, it will clock itself high again to calculate everything. You don't really lose any performance because of this.

well i used amd over drive to take it to 1.25 voltage and when i look at the cpu z and use the amd stability test it maxes at 1.25 and maintains 3.5 ghz. seems about right?
