CPU Goes to 100 Degrees While Idle

Hello,

Right after I log in to my computer, the cpu fan instantly gets super loud, and the bios says my cpu is at 100 Degrees.

Any solutions are appreciated!

CPU: Intel Core i7 - 6700K
Cooler: Corsair Hydro H80i GT
GPU: GeForce GTX 960 4GB
Motherboard: MSI H170A Gaming Pro

Solution
NEVER run a system with the cooler off.

A cpu generates lots of heat in a small area. The cooler removes this heat so the cpu can run properly. Older AMD cpus used to melt when you pulled the cooler(before they added thermal protection).

Please install the stock cooler if you still have it to see if that works better. I think the H80i may have failed. Since you have it out of the system, you can connect it and listen to the pump(with the stock cooler cooling the cpu clearly.).

How may I check if it's connected? No liquid is coming out?

check the power cable that it is plug into the motherboard

Everything is plugged in right, the light, lights up on the cooler itself.

Place your ear next to the pump with the fans off and listen(at idle the fans are not needed short term anyway), you should hear liquid flowing.

When a pump stops, the liquid stops and you suddenly have nearly no cooling because the coldplate(under the pump and touching the cpu) has very little surface area. It relies on the radiator and liquid to get that heat away from the cpu.

The light on leads me to guess you are in fact connected correctly. It is connected to the cpu fan header right. You do not want it on a voltage controlled header because that could stall it. Can you use the bios to check how fast the pump is turning?

No it does not show up in the bios. I took the cooler off and turned on my pc, and the cpu temp is still 100 degrees. Is that normal?

There is no stock cooler for the i7-6700K.

I swear almost every one of these "my cpu is 100c" threads involves a water cooling setup with a dead pump. There's no reason to use water cooling if you're not overclocking. Get a cryorig h7 or evo 212 air cooler.

My bad.
Will still have to test that cpu with another cooler.

It does seem scary how many of these all in ones seem to fail.
