CPU going CRAZY have looked at other posts!

Hi,
I have looked at other posts on this topic - cpu revving up really fast on and off all the time....but I don't understand any of the solutions - I am a total newbie/non-tech person.
Can someone please tell me what I need to do?

What do you mean by "Revving up" it's cooler fan ?

When idle? means doing nothing but you staring at the desktop,leaving it alone.

Hi,

I mean the laptop is quiet (normal) then it sounds like it is taking off...I only use it for study. So I have a few word docs and some internet pages open in firefox. Occassionally I might need to open another app but I don't use it for much else. It is about 2.5 years old.
I tried a few solutions that I thought worked but it is still doing the same thing.

Did you ever clean it with a can of compressed air or something like that? Means take every cover that can come of easily off and make sure when coming near the fan to block it ,use something plastic but sturdy for that.
