Question CPU Heating Issue

Hello,

Recently, I've been troubleshooting my PC because it has been randomly shutting off within the last few weeks.

Originally it shut off after 7 hours of use, and over time it became more intermittent with intervals of as short as 15 minutes (of idle use) even while idling in the BIOS).

I figured, it was a PSU issue since I've actually had mine for 10 years with no issues in that time.

I replaced the PSU yesterday -- and faced the same problems with the PC randomly shutting down.

This morning, I decided to test a different wall to plug in the PC and it was able to remain stable for 7 hours no problem. (idle) -- when I used it it crashed about 3 hours later.

Crashing, meaning critical shutdown rather than a clean shutdown with a "Shutting Down" screen posting.

I decided that the issue may have not been the PSU (but replacing a 10 year old PSU is a good idea anyway, so that's okay) and maybe -- the electrical of the wall I was originally using may have started deteriorating.

Anyway, my next step was to check CPU temps since the MOBO is still giving an AA code and my HDD & SDD were healthy.

And so originally, I had a CPU running at 50c on idle which was a little high but didn't feel too out of place but I decided to replace the thermal paste.

This is my first time applying thermal paste but, upon applying it the CPU did not get cooler in the beginning. It generally still remained idle at 50c.

A day later, I noticed that the CPU was able to get as cool as 42c on boot and start-up. (which kind of makes sense) but if it remained idle on boot it could stay at 42-47c. What I don't know is if running Chrome would be intensive enough to ramp up the heat back to 50-52c.

I also noticed when playing games MOBA games, the CPU get started generating a lot more heat -- but I don't believe MOBAs should be too intensive for the CPU to be generating that much heat.

So I'm not sure what the issue is. From here. I also noticed that while the heatsink was warm to touch and 'hot' enough to be uneasy, not burning -- the CPU fan was blowing out COOL air. Is this weird?

The fan is running fine, it doesn't seem to be throttling. I have the stock AMD CPU fan that comes with a FX-8370.

Is there any other advice or things to check? I plan on removing the heatsink again and reapplying the thermal paste. This time I will check if the HEATSINK is clogged up since last time I cleaned it (yesterday) I only wiped the fan.

Thank you.

full system specs?

AMD FX8370 CPU
Gigabyte 990FX-Gaming Mobo
16gb Corsair DDR3 ram (4x4)
MSI GTX 1050ti 4gb GPU
Thermaltake 650w Litepower PSU (replacing a 10 year old Thermaltake 875w Toughpower XT PSU)

500gb WD HDD
1TB Samsung SSD SATA

As an update the PC can idle at sub 50c consistently but while gaming* it runs at 70c which is pretty normal but at idle it can be stable for about 7 to 8 hours assuming its at around 50c.
At 70c it lasts for about an hour before it crashes.

Event Viewer says there is a Kernal Power error event ID 42 or 43 I dont remember sorry, stating a shutdown occured due to something freezing or unstable power. Again, I just replaced the PSU and have checked various outlets with more stable perforance in certain walls. But it honestly still feels random since I still able to use the culprit outlet for my monitor and speakers but my PC literally last until startup or at most 15 minutes when plugged into that particular wall.

As another update. Today, I cleaned up the Heatsink and the lowered the CPU temp drastically. Originally, the CPU temp was around ~50c on idle and going up to 65-70c while playing League of Legends.

After cleaning the Heatsink, the idle temp is ~40c and went as low as 36c. And while playing League, was showing around 45-55c. However, the PC still randomly crashed. So, I'm considering that this is no longer an overheating issue.

Is there any other possibilities?
