CPU Heating Problems

I've recently updated my GPU and was wondering if that could have anything to do with the power the CPU has to put out.

Since I updated my card, the CPU has been running much hotter. Keep in mind that I have had the same Processor since I had the computer. It's about 3-4 years old. The GPU on the other hand has twice the memory of my old one.

Specs:

GPU - STRIX Asus GTX 970

Processor - AMD 6120 Six-Core Processor

Motherboard - Gigabyte 2AC8 Motherboard

PSU - Corsair CX750M

Case - MicroATX Guardian

CPU Temperatures:

Idle temp: around 40c

Playing WoW w/Ultra Settings: Max 70c after 10 mins.

Playing Shadow Of Mordor w/High Settings: Max 80c after 10 mins.
(The temperature will continue to rise unless I close the game)

My question stands; As a result of the GPU update, is the processor using more power to run games? And if so, what can I do to fix it?

Solution
No issue dear. So, my suggestion after seeing pics here is still the same. Buy any cheap aftermarket CPU Cooler like TX3 from cooler master and use it for some time. Make sure that cooler is compatible with the cpu socket.
Im not quite sure, but that cpu would be a bottleneck for your gpu for sure. It has to draw much more power than intended and thus gets hotter.

To answer your question if the processor is using more power to run games. Ofcourse it does, your procesor is by far not able to reach the full power of the gpu, that is if you didnt overclock your cpu.

Maybe if you overclocked it to 4/4.5ghz it would minimize the chance of getting bottlenecked. Although, to be frank, i still think that wouldn't help much. Playing games with a pretty high end card like that and a cpu like the fx6300 is like not taking full advantage of your system. Or in this case, of your gpu.

I understand, I have talked to other people who just say "ADD MORE FANS" which is hard because that involves replacing the motherboard, and if I do that I may aswell replace the CPU too. Even so, more fans don't fix the processor itself lol.

I guess I'm looking at updating the two in the future, but in the meantime, as far as games and heat goes. What temperature would you recommend to be the unsafe point for this CPU? I have been playing a game untill around 70c, tabbing out for a bit, then going back in after it's cooled down.

There are many factors:

1. Poor ventilation as you are using microATX case. Ensure that your optimized air flow inside the case.

2. CPU is bottlenecking the GPU and to fulfill the requests of GPU, CPU is drawing more power. I'm not concerned with CPU reaching 70 but I'm definitely concern with CPU reaching 80C. AMD CPU don't get too much hotter as compared to Intel particularly Haswell.

3. Which CPU cooler you are using? If not then it is time to add a aftermarket cpu cooler. Maybe a cheaper one.

65 degrees is the temperature for long periods of time. You should stick to that. Ofcourse you could run higher, but that would decrease your cpu's life drastically.

I dont think the ventilation would matter much Easylover, even if it was all top notch.

This cpu clearly would bottleneck his gtx 970.

By the way, if i we're you, i would save money to buy an intel processor later.
It would give you so much more advantage. You have a nice gpu and it would be perfect for, lets say, an i5 4690k.
It's more expensive ofcourse, but you can be assured to run wow and shadow of mordor with high settings flawless like that.
The gpu won't be bottlenecked at all.

What kind of resolution are you playing at by the way?

I stress tested a bit earlier with no side panel on the case just to see if airflow was an issue. I got about the same results, very slightly lower. I'm not even sure if I have a CPU cooler, I know I have a heatsink which is dispatching very warm air.

I run just about any game in my library flawlessly, it's just the heat problem that's bothering me.
1440x900 btw.

Mate, you can do whatever you want, but your cpu is drawing much more power right now than intended.

You're kinda using a high end graphics card in combination with a mid range cpu.

Your cpu is working his ass off. The only thing to do so is upgrade the cpu, or switch to an entire new platform, like the z97 or x99 for example.

Are you running your cpu on stock speeds, or did you overclock it?

Well I will have to buy a new CPU in the future, I understand that much, but I can't just buy one now lol. I need a simple fix for the time. Atleast a way to mediate the problem.

I have never overclocked my CPU, not sure if I should. Wouldn't it run hotter?

That's what I have been doing in the meantime, it still will heat up past 70c after a bit.
Here are the pics btw http://imgur.com/a/J1QyP
The fan on top blows very hot air out.

(Sorry about my lack of knowledge btw. I'm just recently delving into hardware. I'm much more of a software guy)
