CPU help pairing with GTX 1050TI

Hi guys
I need some help buying a new CPU for LGA 1155 that will pair with my GTX 1050TI that i just newly bought. Im on a budget of $120 and dont mind buying it used. Currently my gpu is paired with my i3-2120 and I just think its not strong enough or i am afraid it bottlenecks my gpu.

i5-2500 is the best value at $55 on Ebay. You could afford the slightly newer i5-3570 or maybe even an i7-2600, but you might not see much difference for twice the price.

But going from 2c/4t to 4c/4t also might not see a worthwhile difference. Might as well just play and look at current cpu usage.

The Sandy Bridge i5s are much stronger than their i3s.

No, the ipc is exactly the same. That site and any other synthetic based comparison sites are just bad. You can't base a conclusion on just a single synthetic bench suite. You're just going from 2c/4t 3.3ghz to 4c/4t 3.3ghz, 3.7 turbo. Especially with most games, you aren't going to see that multithreaded 50% difference from going from virtual to physical + ~10% clock increase from turbo.

Newer gen is the same. Of course the difference is going to be smaller in your example when you compare a slower i5 vs i3. Sb to sl is a ~23% ipc increase so will be more than 15%.

Right but there is still the clock speed difference, which accounts for the greater differences in performance.

^Opinion. Which is fine. A decent point.

You forgot the 2 extra physical cores of the i5, which are a better than the 2 logical threads of the i3.

The i7-2600 is still an option. My opinion on that was it's not worth spending over $100 on an older processor. Whereas $55 wasn't too much to spend. Just opinions on whether it's worth it or not.

Fact is the i5-2500 will perform better than the i3-2120, with more physical cores and higher clock speeds.
