Is my motherboard (gigabyte GA-H110M-A) compatible with Intel i5 7400? Pc part picker said there may be an issue with its BIOS. Is that hard to update? If so, what should i do?

Solution
You can download gigabyte motherboard utility and do the update automatically through the utility program. (Although it would seem that doing it this way has a greater chance of failure to update and ruins the motherboard. But this was a big worry many years ago, since there have been big improvements in the utility updates), I've done this with my Asus utility many times... Always easy and fast...

Or, ultra safe way, download bios update (for your motherboard, will be in drivers section). Put it on a usb. Restart computer, enter bios (F1, or delete button will get you in on initial startup screen), you'll find a bios update option in there, just have to select your drive/path (can't give exact directions to where to find bios update...

my system is working now, I'm just looking to update. How do i update my bios? And if i do would i be able to go up to the i5 8600?

no, you do not have the right motherboard for 8th gen CPU's. the max CPU you can use is the i7 7700K

I'm making this sounds much more complicated than it is... Have a quick search on Google "how to update bios" or even YouTube may have something for you

holy cow thanks bro, my only worry is will i be good to update my bios to handle a 7th gen processor even though i have a 6th gen processor installed?

That is the point of doing this.

7th Gen and 6th gen are pretty much the same cpu, let's say that. 7th is just a refresh/slightly better than the 6th. But the motherboard needs a bios update to understand the 7th Gen cpu. It'll work.

Also as per why not just stay 6gen? Because there is very little price difference. And I've noticed that the 7th Gen gets better overall pricing (sales).

thanks. I'm wanting to go from an i3 to an i5, if that's what you're wondering. I could get an 6th gen i5, is there much performance difference between 6th and 7th gen i5s?

You could see between 5(in most games)-10%(in some games) of performance difference. So if it's available, might as well do 7th Gen.... But it largely depends on the price. I wouldn't spend too much extra for that 5%.

I would though... Spend it on the i7-7700
