CPU is extremely hot for no reason.

Not too sure what exactly is going on here. I have a pretty descent water cooling system (CORSAIR - Hydro Series 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler.) with a good number of fans. CPU temperatures are averaging 140 degrees Fahrenheit at only a 6% load. I have never done any type of overclocking. I've cleaned the dust out of my computer and have updated all of my drivers.

I'm getting concerned, and as a broke college student, I can not afford buying another 600$ CPU or another cooling system.

To tell you the truth I have not really researched as to which brand is best but the difference would not be that big unless you are running a very aggressive overclock. Try to go for a non conductive compound-currently I am using the Noctua one (since some came with my cooler) and I can't complain.

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the pump, and I feel the liquid moving. I never overclock, do you think the paste could get old despite that?

As others suggested double check the thermal compound is applied properly, the heatsink is secured properly and that the AIO's pump is plugged in the right header-usually most boards have a dedicated header just for the pump to ensure its running at full sleep.

It's been four years. Can you recommend a good thermal paste for what I have?

Yeah, it's been awhile since i've used my paste. Can you recommend a good brand for what I have?
