Yesterday there was a thunder storm in my region. My computer was off.The connection for the ups and modem goes from main plug socket, such that if it is turned both will become off.The people in my home was using the wifi so i kept it turned on.So at that time my modem was on and also ups had supply from the plug, even though it wasnt on.Cpu,monitor, speaker all other components were turned off. Then the lightning struck near my home when i was sleeping. And there was a power cut in my region. When power came back i tried to turn on my computer to see that the modem, ups and othet components were working normally except the cpu.
Do i have to buy a new powersupply or a motherboard?

The power supply is the most likely thing, but there is no way to know.
Best to take it in for a quote if you have a repair place nearby otherwise you could end up randomly replacing things trying to figure out what was damaged.
Have you tried plugging it in directly to the wall outlet just in case the UPS is not putting out power?
If it's totally dead and there are no lights or fans spinning then there is no way to be completey sure apart from swapping out parts to see what works.

If you have a multimeter you could short out the green wire on the PSU 24way connector to one of the black ones which will will turn it on and measure to see if there is any voltage, but if that sounds confusing to you maybe it's best left to the experts. http://www.smps.us/power-connectors.html

I think the psu is working normally since i tested other components in it after the incident. When i plug cpu to the socket it is not working.Havent used the multimeter. And hard to get one.No lights no spinning fans when trying to turn on cpu.nothing.
