CPU is overheating under load

Hi,
So whenever I stress test my cpu (4790k) I get very hot temps (between 90-100°). I have a H80i this should keep the temps to 60-80° under load from what I've heard. I have tried to re-apply the thermal paste and to make sure my cooler was working correctly but I still get these temps.
Apparently re-lidding is an option but I was wondering if there was anything I could do before I took that risk.
Thank you.

I don't think it's the stress test as I was rendering a small video on Windows movie Maker and I got 100° real quick. I've tried Asus's stress test too and got the same results

It could be one of two things:

1) Your cooler may not be functioning properly. The H80i isn't a particularly great cooler (many tower heatsinks half its price perform as well or better), but it should be keeping your CPU below 100c. Check to make sure the pump is working and liquid is circulating. Feel around the cooler, and see if any part of it is getting particularly hot.

2) Your CPU may be a good candidate for delidding. On many high-end Intel chips, when the heatspreader was attached, it wasn't seated perfectly flush with the core, which causes elevated temps. Removing the heatspreader, scraping off the glue, applying fresh paste and reattaching the heatspreader can help significantly. This is, however, a dangerous operation, so do it at your own risk.

A third option would be to tweak voltage a bit. You may be able to drop your operating voltage a little without touching frequency, and this can have dramatic effects on operating temperature.

Try remount the Cooler, if you really did put enough Thermal paste...

I had the same issue with the NZXT AIO Watercooler... i didnt screw it in evenly and then i got very high temps...
It took me around 3 times until i mounted the cooler in the right position..
Because this giant block did hit the RAM it didnt go down the right way... so i mounted in a different direction..

Now my temps are MAX 65 °C under Prime Load (Delided 7700k @5.1 Ghz)

I have tried replacing the cooler multiple times with no change at all, i made sure the screws are very tight and it is well placed. I have also checked on Corsair Link and it says my pump is running at 2200 rpm. However, when i touch the cooler (heatsink or airflow leaving heatsink) it isnt hot only a tiny bit warm. Maybe its my cooler? Should i try the stock intel cooler?

Necessary not.. thats true..
But i think it makes quite a difference which paste you use...
Well at least on those tiny chips like the 7700k where there is only very little space from where the heat spreads out...

I have never seen a 4790k i dont know how big that chip is...

But well... if you already take the risk do the delid i would use Liquid metal to squeze the maximum out of it :)
Still only my opinnion tho!

I used a Delid Kit from Der8auer to minimize the risk :)

So, i just relid my cpu. The thermal paste on it was terrible and there was a bunch of silicon everywhere. I cleaned everything really well and put two tiny dots of Arctic Silver 5 on the chip(the silver rectangle). I then put everything back together. IT WORKED, so that took lots of stress away :)

BUT, now when i stress test my temps slowly creep up to a 100, instead of instantly getting there.
My Cpu is clocked at 4.00ghz(stock) and 1.018v(also stock).
