Cpu is unworkable or has been changes

hi there,

I have a pentium 4 cpu and recently I changes the heatsink. So I tried to start it as usual and it's writing me : cpu is unworkable or has been changed, than I click f1 and I get to the ''start windows normally'' and when I click the conpuyter restarts. What can I do to fix this problem?

I am confused. Are you saying that you just replaced a HSF (heatsink/fan) on an Intel® Pentium® 4 and now the system keeps restarting?

Did you replace the processor? Is the fan running on the HSF?

I didn't change the prossessor, only the hsf and yes the hsf is running fine.

after that I clicked on the 'start windows normally' It restarts it self.

How long is it running for before it restarts on its own?

about 15 seconds.. right after I click on the start windows normally button.

Is it possible the new heat sink is touching something it shouldn't be like circuitry? I would go back to the old heatsink just to see if the problem goes away.

can you bootup from a Windows CD / DVD or a Linux disk ?

if so maybe your Windows is corrupted.

If the same happens when booting a CD/DVD (or USB memory) then it may be a hardware fault (or corrupted CMOS)

Maybe the Heatsink is not locked down correctly on CPU or too little or too much thermal compound has been used

Does your Pentium 4 have pins (478) or does socket have pins (775) ?
latter socket 775 fixes cpu firmly in place but older socket could allow CPU to be pulled out of socket when removing the heatsink

Apparently, you need to go into the BIOS settings and save [F10] . (I know it makes no sense.)

If the problem still persists you should try a CMOS battery.
