Cpu issues while running games

Okay so I'm having some trouble while playing games. My CPU usage goes to 100% and I start to stutter and lag ingame.
The setup I'm running is the i5-6600K 3,50Ghz
with a GTX 1070 GPU and 16gb memory.

On the bottleneck calculator it says that my cpu is too weak for my graphics card, but would that make me lag so much sometimes in games that arent even that heavy such as fortnite? What I want is to be able to play games like the new Call of duty black ops 4 smoothly without having to put every setting to the lowest/off.

If I do need a new cpu I've been looking at a few, the cheaper alternative i5-8400 or the more expensive one i7-8700.
When i checked those with the bottleneck calculator it said that the i5 would work perfectly with my graphics card, and when i checked the i7 it said my graphics card would be too weak for the cpu.

I'd really appericate if someone has the sparetime to help me out alittle, I'm lost :)

Bottleneck calculator is just another POS to add confusion and get people to buy the latest new of the new.

Frankly save your money and wait for the 9th gen CPU's. The Cost is going to be a little higher but the IPC gain over what you have is going to be a better value over a 8th gen. With either a 8th or 9th gen you would have to also replace your motherboard.

I run Fortnight on an i3 6100, Ryzen 3 1300x and Ryzen 5 2600X, all three of these handle at least medium settings and have not a problem at all staying above 60 fps so it really depends on what else you play to tax that i5.

i5-6600K "Stock" vs i5 8400.. the gain is something like 8-20 fps but if you're overclocked it's hardly noticeable at all.

6600k with gtx 1070 are really unbalance components, if you play games with "Heavy on CPU" like GtaV, WW2,Battlefield 1 or V. But if you play games with heavy on GPU, PUBG, Fortnite, etc, it has no a big deal.
Try to OC your CPU, if you using Z type chipset on your motherboard.

How are they not compatible? :s
Both use the LGA1151 socket

6 and 7 th gen run on the same boards, the 8th gen needs a different chipset to run even though they have the same socket.

Ohh okay, thanks. So if I would want to upgrade I'd be looking at a new motherboard as well

Which is also why I suggested waiting, the 9th gen chips are about to launch and offer your more performance for your money. Why buy an 8th gen CPU/Motherboard and only get a 10%-15% performance increase when you can wait a little longer and get 20%+.

Here is your list of supported CPU's for your motherboard: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/B150-GAMING-M3#support-cpu

There's nothing wrong with waiting a month to see what the new Intel CPU's offer.

There's also nothing wrong with gaming on an i7 7700k. This CPU will be very relevant for years to come.

Hang tight, wait for the reviews, then price up a new CPU and motherboard and see if it's worth the price bump.
