CPU Issues with GPU

Ok so at the moment I have my GPU: "XFX Radeon HD 7870" which I upgraded a few weeks ago, I've realesed on most games my GPU isn't giving me much fps, on every game, ultra or low it gives me the same low frame-rate as I think it's my CPU (Intel core i2 quad 2.5ghz) restricting a large amount of my FPS, any advice on what new CPU I should buy, I hear radeon's with radeon's work better.

Intel or AMD cpus will work fine with your GPU. What motherboard do your have? Your MB's CPU socket will determine what you can upgrade to.

What does windows say your cpu is under "system" within the control panel?

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8300 @ 2.50GHz 2.5 Ghz

What mobo do you have? I did have Q9300 + Asus P5Q PRO ADATA memory and it did OC with air cooler to +4GHz easy.

If you do not have good OC mobo then it is maybe good idea to buy intel i5 3570k or 4670k+ good OC mobo.
You need good cooler to OC cpu. + new DDR3 memory with i5.
