Question CPU LED turning red and Q-Flash Plus not working ?

Hello everyone,

I am currently in the process of building my system.
I have, among others, selected the following components:

• Gigabyte Z690 Gaming X
• Intel Core i7-12700K
• G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB F5-5200J3636C16GX2-TZ5RK

After what may have been some bad luck with two mainboards that seemed to have a similar error with the CPU and DRAM LEDs blinking sequentially, with my third mainboard I am now encountering a different issue:
On startup, without any components connected, the CPU LED lights up constantly (with no other LEDs at least flashing) and I cannot get into the Q-Flash Plus process (the Q-Flash LED just doesn't respond). With the CPU and memory installed, I am still getting the red CPU LED, but additionally, the system shuts off and on again after about 30s.

That's why I was wondering: Does this indicate another mainboard error or am I seeing regular behaviour of a Gigabyte Z690 mainboard here? I am more and more doubting that I am just having bad luck, however after doing the exact same steps as the last two times and experiencing a different problem now, I am not sure what to believe anymore.
I also had the chance to test with another CPU, leading to the same results. So do you have any idea what might be the root cause here?

Sounds like you may not have all the power cords plugged in correctly. Either not pushed in hard enough, or perhaps double check four prong /cpu atx connector is plugged in.

Hi, thank you for the quick reply. It seems to me like this info is hard to get because I am actually using a water cooling system.
However, regarding your first response, checking the connectors again didn't solve the problem. 😕

If you are using a liquid cooling face plate, try backing off the face plate screws a little bit to relieve pressure on the cpu. Sometimes, and I have done it in my zeal to install, there is too much pressure on the cpu and it shorts itself out.

Did you ever figure this out? I’m having the same issue with similar hardware, i5 12600k and Gigabyte Z690 UD AX DDR4.
