Hey people.

I was recently replacing my CPU. I don't think my old CPU quite fit right (I installed it temporarily and was aware of the issue so I never turned it on) and when I removed it I heard a slight crack from the motherboard.

Not good.

So when I put in place my new CPU, it fits in the socket perfectly, but I can't lock it in place with the lever. It is loose and has no effect in locking down the CPU, so I can take it out easily even when the pin is down.

I was wondering if it would be safe to carry on and simply fix it in place with my heatsink, which presses down onto it, but I have a feeling the answer would be no.

Has anyone, anywhere got any solutions? I have spent copious amounts of cash on this computer and have only been rewarded so far with problem after problem.

Thank you for reading.

It's an asus m5a78l-m with an AMD FX 8350. So do I seriously have to replace the entire motherboard just to fix the pin back?

I forgot to mention - the problem is that the lever has no effect on the clamps. It seems loose.
