Hello,

is an am3+ processor compatitble with an AM3 socket

There is more to it than that, because specific boards might not be able to handle specific CPUs due to power constraints. Technically, it's possible and some boards were forward compatible.

Just go to the board manufacturers website and look at the CPU support list. Also look at the BIOS updates.

If buying a new board, you will want to get AM3+ though.
