I have a Dell Optiplex 990 MT. Trying to upgrade the cpu from i7 2600 to i7 3770. When I install the i7 3770 the computer will not boot and is flashing codes. The log file in BIOS is telling me that the "micorcode update has failed. When I run
sudo cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep microcode, the result is "microcode : 0x2f".
Im using Kbuntu. I have intel-microcode, amd64-microcode and iucode-tool already installed through the Muon Package Manager.
Im stumped at this point and not sure how to resolve this. Is the failure due to a security patch? Can the micorcode be updated or configured to accomodate the i7 3770? or did I buy a damaged cpu?
