cpu/mobo advice please

I'm looking to spend around $450 on a mobo, cpu, and ram. This is something I'd put a geforce 4 in sometime down the road. I would like it to be around 2GHz (maybe 2.5 when prices go down) and 512 MB of RAM. I really want something stable, and have NO plans for overclocking. I was leaning towards AMD, but the whole heat/cpu issue makes me nervous. So, as of now stability, performance and compatability are the key factors. Are there any good setups that anyone recommends?

You want it to be 2GHz without overclocking, and you want a good deal.

Sorry, there are no available choices

Go AMD if you're not overclocking.

Okay then. Thought it would be doable with that budget. Guess not. Thanks for your reply.

if you go AMD DEFINATLY get a high speed fan. That will cure your heat problems. I have yet to have any AMD chip die from thermal death. I suggest Gigabyte's new mobo with the KT333 chipset. That runs about 110, The Athlon 2000+ which looks like it's running around 150. 512 megs of Corsair DDR PC2700 running about 170. Then 35 for a Volcano 7+ and 7 for the Artic Silver III. I know it's a little over, but that's pretty close to what your looking at. All these items can be found on www.pricegrabber.com

Kingston 1066 RDram: $132

Oced to 2.4G at 533/1066
The feeling of having a 4.2 G/s memory bandwith system: Priceless.

is that for one stick...or two?
Sorry, I wasn't very clear. It's within his budget, just not a very good deal.
oh ok...will...i agree...why not just buy a 1.6 and overclock it to 2...it would save him about $70.

ah, about overclocking... I'm not against the concept of overclocking, but I'd hate to mess up a setting somewhere and fry something that would void any warranty. Then my budget would be completely blown. That's why I'm not PLANNING on overclocking. Thanks for all the great replies everyone.
