Hey all these types of threads probably get asked a 1000 times i know and i,m sorry i have done my research but i keep raking my brain. So hopefully some one with better know how can help a newb like me out.

My current rig is all over the place and i think its time for a upgrade on a few parts here is my system.

GPU - Geforce GTX 660 TI superclocked 3gb
CPU - AMD Phenom II x4 840
Ram - 8 GB Corsair DDR3
MOBO - Asrock something dunno its a old cheap budget board
HDD - 500gb Sata
PSU - 600w Corsair
OS - Win 7 Ultimate

I have been thinking about upgrading a while ago but i dint really get round to it. The games i play are not really demanding to be fair but since i got the new D3 expansion i have noticed a lot of lag spikes i thought it was due to the new release but i have noticed in Civ 5 and League of legends as well.

I have all my updated Drivers for my GPU and i have looked on the net i read to re thermal paste my CPU but i thought its about time just to upgrade the MOBO and CPU all together.

Intel Build
MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £106.99
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - OEM £161.99

AMD Build
MSI A88X-G45 Gaming AMD A88X (Socket FM2+) ATX Motherboard £94.99
AMD Kaveri 7850K 12 Compute Core APU w/ Radeon R7 Graphics (4 CPU + 8 GPU Compute Cores) £131.99

Or any other AMD Chip?

The reason i pick MSI is because the features stand out to me more then the other brands i don't plan on Overclocking so i know the k versions are not worth it for me but i feel like they will hold their value better. Money not really a issue i just want a decent set up which will last me for a few years with no problem.

I read that the AMD chips are laughable compare to Intel but tbh i,m no fan of either just as long as it get the job done, but also read that the new line of AMD and Intel are on their way so is it worth waiting before upgrading?.

Any help and some understanding would be much appreciated also been looking at 120gb SSD are they worth the money or should i just get a SSHD.

Thanks Terrakid.

When you say what I have is fine you mean my current rig?. Do you think it's worth just rethemal pasting my cpu and holding on then?.

What about a ssd are they the way forward or can I just settle with a sshd. I don't think I use my Pc like most do so I dunno if it's worth it.

I would upgrade the CPU, MB and HD. If you can, get 2 or 3 SSDs like you said. Or if you can't, just get a 1TB Hard Disk.
As for the CPU and MB, I would get a Z87 Asus Board with a 4770k i7, great for games and rendering.

I think the 4770 is overkill for what I use my computer for but defo leaning towards Intel this time around. Are their any major difference between the Asus and MSI boards?. The wireless on the Asus don't really appeal to me.

Even a 4670k is probably overkill for your needs as nothing you mention requires and overclocked chip. This would be plenty for your needs and cheaper. You could use some of the money saved towards better HDD or maybe SSD.

for only like £4-5 more than what that 4670k combo would cost, you could have a nice 240gb ssd.

I'd prefer the Samsung EVO SSD compared to the Crucial M500 SSD.
