hi guys,

currently running a ryzen 5 1400 on a ASRock B350m Pro4 Motherboard. My RAM is GeiL SuperLUCE with thermal beaming technology, 3000mhz.

I am upgrading my CPU to a ryzen 7 2700 within the next week or two. everything else will remain the same in the build until rtx3000 series drops, unless yall convince me otherwise on my RAM.

As it stands, i have my RAM oc'd to 2933 mhz. however according to the ryzen 5 1400 spec sheet on AMDs website, it has a system memory specification of 2667.

As for the 2700 thats in the mail, its spec sheet says its RAM speed is 2933. RAM is so cheap right now and i keep hearing that the faster the better for ryzen processors, so i was considering upgrading to 3200 or 3600 mhz RAM sticks, but will it even work at faster frequencies than the 3000mhz GeiL ram i already have?

thanks! heres spec pages for the components im discussing.

It's your MB and it's memory topology that's putting the brakes om memory speed. Even 1st gen Ryzen can do much better than 2933MHz but it's kinda difficult with MBs with 300 series chipsets. Only top b-die Samsung RAM can do it reliably. So, if you are not planning on changing MB to at least b450 you may be just throwing money on 3600MHz RAM.

thanks, thats sort of my line of thinking. thats Pro4 b350 im using says you can OC to 3200+ mhz. i love my ram sticks tbh

i get 2933 out of my GeiL RAM very reliably with xmp 2.0, but anytime i unplug my system it beeps and restarts 3 times then i need to remember to open bios to lock in OC again. thats my only complaint but i think its more mobo abd CMOS related anyway.

i wonder if i can push my memory past 3000 if i play with voltages and latency settings instead of xmp profile...

amazing resource thanks

dyk am i right about my cpu and ram OCs both resetting to factory frequency everytime i unplug my tower due to mobo/cmos thing? like does that happen to everyone?

is "select answer" still a thing on tomshardware forums?
