CPU/MOBO/RAM or GPU upgrade?

Hello all, and thanks in advance for the help. I think it has come time to upgrade my system, but I am not sure which bits. I am running a q9550, with 8 gig ram. The GPU is a R9 290X. What would be the better pugrade? CPU/ MOBO/RAM or GPU?

Edit: Sorry, should have stated that I game a lot, and I use a 1600p monitor, Corsair AX 1200 power supply, an old GA-X48-DQ6 mobo.

That CPU is ancient. It is definitely what needs to be upgraded.

Yeah thought so. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I would probably notice a huge improvement in performance with a current cpu, yes?

Yes you would. An i5 6500 would be a great upgrade, if not looking to overclock.

I might consider either kaby lake or AMD ryzen actually, to see what they offer, since they are not that far off.
