Question CPU/motherboard compatibility ?

Also, I hope everyone realizes this is the A520 board, it is AM4.

A620 is the AM5 motherboard.
How did all the rest of us miss that? 🤦‍♀️ I knew that AM5 motherboards were 600 series, but when I saw that others were mentioning that it was incompatible, I assumed that I was either wrong or there was something I was missing.

Case in point - https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007625+601356442

hah! ...you are correct! my bad to have missed it!

So for the benefit of @PopularDany : yes, in THEORY any AM4 Ryzen CPU or APU, or Ryzen Processor with Radeon Graphics as AMD calls it now, should work with it. EXCEPT AMD at the launch of B550 and A520 said they would not work with 1st gen Ryzen which a 2200G is based upon. And yet, in a manner similar to what they've done many times before AMD seems to have relented in that many A520 and B550 motherboards now offer BIOS's that support them.

That's obviously a generality and it might be a bit of a gamble in any specific case so the thing to do is check the latest BIOS for the code block, called the SMU, that supports the specific processor by it's code name. The code name for a 2200G is Raven Ridge so that's what to look for and the utility that will check any AM4 BIOS for level of SMU support is called, rather uninspired but usefully: Ryzen SMU Checker.

So I downloaded the latest BIOS for MSI A520M-A Pro (I cannot find the A520-A Pro so I assume this is what you meant).... E7C96AMS.1G0... and ran it through my copy of Ryzen SMU Checker. This shows it to contain SMU v30.98.0 supporting Raven Ridge 2000 series APU's. So it looks like this board will work with a 2200G processor.

Sorry it took so long to get to this point. If A520M-A Pro is not the board you meant earlier just let us know...or google "Ryzen SMU Checker" to find and download your own copy of this useful little tool.
