CPU + Motherboard Price vs Perf decision

What do you guys think is a better deal?

The prices are what I can get out the door. The rig will be used for FSX and some heavy web development, Visual Studio + Adobe CS5 (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc..). I do plan to overclock with a Corsair H100 and will be running DDR3 1600 8-8-8-24 RAM. I'm leaning towards the 3770k and the LGA1155, just can't seem to get myself to pull the trigger, the 2011 seems to be the new hotness with better CPU upgrades later on? Or should I just go with old faithful and the 2700k?

The latter one. BTW, Ivy is newer than socket 2011.

I wouldn't go for any less than a hex core i7-3930K if I was going the LGA2011 route, the 3820 is only a quad core.

As for the othe two, go for the Z77 board and your pick of the cpus, it will take both the older Sandy Bridge i7-2700K and the newer Ivy Bridge i7-3770K. The 3770K doesn't overclock as well as the 2700K because it can't get rid of its heat due to 1). the smaller die size and 2). the solder that conducts heat to the heat spreader has been replaced by less effective thermal transfer compound.

Personally, I would pick the newer chip.

Thanks for the info guys, I thought that the 2011 came out around the same time as the 1155 Z77. I always figured it as newer since it supported the Intel 6 cores, I also didn't realize I could put a 2700k in a Z77 board?

My first choice was the ASUS P9X79 PRO LGA 2011 Intel X79 with the 3930x for $874 from NewEgg I really like the memory options, but from what I've read there's really no real justification for the extra cost over the 2700k/3770k. The 3770k vs the 3930 basically ran neck and neck until an application actually used the extra 2 cores.

I guess I'll find out later today, there's only two 3770k's left in stock at the place I was looking. If they run out and I have to wait, then I might as well wait til my next paycheck and throw in the added cash towards the 3930k lol!

Just ordered the 3770k, thanks for the info guys.

Any suggestions on cooling? I was hoping to hit the 4.5-4.7 OC mark on the CPU and I priced out the Corsair H100 at $114, any suggestions on something comparable would be great.
