Hi.

So I do a lot of gaming and my rig is pretty old now (2012!), but it is generally fine for the games I want to play. However I've been playing Apex Legends and one of the dev's has said that my range of CPU's aren't supported, so I guess I need to upgrade finally.

From the quick research I've done on upgrading my CPU, it seems a lot of people don't think my MB can really handle much better, so I'm after some advice.

My specs currently are;
Operating System:
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU:
AMD FX-6100
RAM:
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 669MHz
Motherboard:
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. GA-78LMT-USB3 (Socket M2)
Graphics:
3072MB ATI AMD Radeon R9 200 / HD 7970 (Sapphire/PCPartner)
Storage:
931GB Seagate ST31000525SV ATA Device (SATA )
Optical Drives:
ATAPI iHAS124 D ATA Device
Audio:
AMD High Definition Audio Device

I was looking to get the AMD FX-8350 as it looks like the best CPU compatible with my MB but if, like some threads have suggested, the MB will struggle, can you guys suggest a new MB/CPU combo? Or will it be fine for me to get the FX-8350?

Thanks in advance,
Cai

Solution
General consensus is, that FX line of CPUs is not worth to upgrade.
You'll have to change CPU/Motherboard/RAM to either Ryzen or Intel.
Options depend on your budget.

Oh I'd need to upgrade my RAM too? My budget is as cheap as possible. Any parts suggestions? To change all of them I really haven't a clue what I'd be looking for

You could look for some used ryzen parts (M/B and and CPU). People that have upgraded from the 1000 series Ryzen to the 2nd gen will get rid of the parts pretty cheap sometimes.
Probably have to pay close to retail for the DDR4 ram though.
