Is it possible to run PC8500 moduls at full speed FSB 533Mhz with a low CPU mutliplier? In my case a Q6600 or E8500.

It depends on your motherboard. Most should allow you to have different ratio, so a stock running Q6600 on a say Asus P5Q Pro, can run 1066mhz ram.

If you have Nvidia 790i, 780i you can run mem unlinked, but even these boards have dividers so you can run in linked mode too.

I'm getting the ASUS P5Q but its SE, not PRO. Should be the same.
Is it a good idea to do so or I should just stick with 1:1 ?

What do you mean with "pointless bandwidth"? It should be better with more, is it not?

I think he is saying why give the CPU more bandwidth then the Memory. At 1:1 they are equal in bandwidth. If you make them less or more [how ever you look at it] then 1:1..one will bottleneck the other. Even though in most cases you wont notice the difference but the difference is there.

So if I want to run my PC8500/1066Mhz RAM at full speed would it be possible to set the FSB at 533Mhz, lower the CPU multipler and still not messing up the RAM:CPU ration?

hmm, funny that. from 600mhz 6-6-6-18 timings to 600mhz 4-4-4-12 i observed a whopping 40 more 3dmark 06's. 12000 to 12040. wow. from 600mhz 6-6-6-18 to 800mhz 6-6-6-18 (1:1 to 1:1.33 divider) i observed 200 more 3dmark 06's.

wasted bandwidth? lulwut?
