Hi,
I got the ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO motherboard and AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE but when I set the multiplier it doesn't seem to stay.

When I ckeck on CPU Z this is what I get, my actual multiplier is set at 16.5. I checked on AMD overdrive and its the same, but sisoft sandra seems to have the correct info but shouldn't it say 16.5x?

Also this is my first build, which might explain anything stupid posted above.

You have Cool ´n´ Quit enabled on your bios?

It throtles down your multiplier and voltage when cpu does not need more juice

do you have amd's cool 'n quiet on? in windows power mgmt set it to desktop - max performance/power. your cpu may be throttling when needed to save energy/pwoer when not needed. do that then go back to cpu-z and you should see your 16x multiplier.

i agree. I wish there was a way to OC AND have CNQ on. Anyone know how to do that?!?!
Or to be able to overclock on the fly without restarting...

Cool n Quiet is useful, but when you're trying to OC it actually slows you down. Try booting up or using applications when it's on and then when it's off. There's a noticeable difference when it's turned off, even during idle.
