I recently upgraded my CPU to an i7 6700k. And while doing benchmarks I noticed that it was performing significantly below the average benchmark for its model. on PassMark performance test 9.0, my CPU scored 9200 whereas the average is 11795. if there is any reason for this i would love to know. thank you all

Good point that was not mentioned. If this was an i5-6400 system, the cooler is definitely too weak.
Guessing going from a 65 to 91w processor was enough to do in the 12v rail then? Usually the fan won't fix the vrm problem but will alleviate it. Out of curiosity sake can you remove your gpu, use onboard and return the test?that would basically confirm the power supply... Though watch temps as firing up the igpu might raise them

Updated good, but did you reset the settings by pulling the battery for a few minutes while its un plugged?

im fairly new to upgrading and building PC's so I'm not very comfortable removing the GPU

it runs tf2 at an average of 130 fps but will go up to 200 and down to 90

Yet you did something far more complicated and changed the CPU? :??: I highly doubt the cooler, that came with that prebuild, is enough for a 6700k.

have any suggestions for better coolers?

My go to these days is a Cryorig H7. Good price, great cooler.

Deepcool Gammax is also a good choice.
